בזיון תלמידי חכמים

The founding pillar of  debate in Yiddishkeit is that it should be confined to a process of reaching the truth. This does not necessarily mean agreeing what the truth is, but it does mean that every aspect of our behavior must be guided by this principle.

This is what it means to have a machlokes l'sheim shamayim. It does not mean that your intention is to "eradicate evil" etc. Rather, it means that the format of the machlokes is purely what will bring to k'vod shamayim. Rather than fighting to support and uphold your opinion, you should be working to collaborate on finding the truth. (מקור הדברים הוא מזהר בראשית ועיין מה שפירש בלבוש, וזהו עומק דברי גמרא קידושין את והב בסופה - לבסוף דייקא נעשו אוהבים, וזהו פירוש המשנה בסופה להתקיים כדאיתא בזהר שם.) There should be mutual trust and respect, and there should never be any aspect of the machlokes which would belittle the other party in any way. (וכמו שקבע מסמרות בזה ביערות דבש)

The big issue with the MO of the "kanaim" is that they are extremists. By definition, they work with extremes, which means that by definition, they process the world in black and white and are incapable of a machlokes l'sheim shamayim. And that is why their MO is to do what they can to "win", including, and especially, to belittle the other side.

When one side is not acting towards the goal of sheim shamayim, they are no longer a valid position to take into account, and one no longer has to relate to them as a valid opinion, and deal with them with a mehalech of sheim shamayim. (.וכמש"כ הנו"ב, וכן מצאנו אצל הג"ר יונתן בעצמו. ובאמת כבר האריכו בזה הפוסקים, ועיין סמ"ע וח"ח.) However, an eitzah tova is to still exhibit restraint and only engage in civil discourse. (נו"ב הנ"ל)

The true world is the next one, and whatever happens here (beyond Torah and mitzvos) is small and inconsequential. It is merely a temporary obfuscation of the truth, which will soon be revealed for all to see. If someone seems to be especially removed from the truth - even if you feel targeted - just ignore them. Feel bad for them that they they are blinded, and be secure in the knowledge that it is very temporary, and the truth will come out soon enough.

On that not, some of the comments are getting too ad hominem, and are written in a way which promotes tremendous בזיון התורה of some of the גדולי הדור. While we will leave the comments already posted due to the real תוכן in them, (we can’t edit comments,) in the future, please express your analysis without the בזיון תלמידי חכמים or we will not allow it through.

    Someone as you - inauthentic to the core will have no existence in the olam haemes.
