Guest Article - Should we vote WZO based on blogs and rumors?
(The views expressed in this article do not necessarily represent the views of the blog.)
It is understood that over time situations can change, and what was at one time considered to be an איסור חמור can now be labeled a מצוה גדולה. That being said, 120 years of precedent cannot be overturned without proper documentation of Gedolei Yisrael meeting and discussing such a change. We cannot and should not be expected to disregard what has previously been regarded as prohibited without an official, published statement.
Online blogs and rumors (of private half-statements) notwithstanding, there has not been a public letter from a single member of the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah of Agudas Yisroel in America, or of any member of the moetzes of Degel Hatorah/Aguda in Eretz Yisroel in support of voting.
Therefore it seems the consensus of Gedolim is that the previous prohibition by nearly all Gedolim of the past century still stands.
See here the WZO Booklet
Chareidi Judaism and its leaders will never overturn precedent / minhag even if the situation changes , look at techeiles for example , it isn't reasonable to expect an official statement , they would be destroyed by the self appointed zealots

DeleteMost of what Rabbi Feldman writes there is unadulterated hogwash.
ReplyDeleteEretz Hakodesh never claimed that things were perfect in EY now that they were there. But without them, the reform organizations could make sure that Israel trips never included anything Jewish. Now things are different. How can he say they have accomplished nothing?
When he isn't writing untruths, he is exaggerating his nitpicky dikdukim and demagoguery.
This article is a reason to vote for Eretz Hakodesh.
Well said! Thank you for having the guts to say it. Though I would have added in "With all due respect to Rabbi Feldman" and let everyone decide for themselves how much respect he is due.

The posek hador paskened. What's Malkiel's mouth (named Gorelick) spewing? But then again, Rav Dovid said Gorelick doesn't know what he's talking about in Eruvin (as did every other American posek) so he's pasul....
