Bein Hazmanim - Too much Free Time?

It is perfectly understandable that a married man who needs to prepare for Yom Tov, and who is hopefully responsible enough to learn when he can, would finish the zman on Rosh Chodesh. But why are we giving bachurim so much free time that is only detrimental to their ruchniyus? Sure, they need a break. Their mothers want to see them. Their help is needed. But a full month is a bit much!

As it becomes more and more dangerous for a bachur to be away from yeshiva, perhaps it is time to reconsider this. And this is not just direct spiritual dangers. This includes that it is becoming easier and easier for a bachur to get caught up in wasting time. Also, what does this teach them about actually taking their time and their learning seriously. Although this issue is mainly caused by the inordinate amount of free time they have during the day in the name of not having secular studies... Perhaps it is time to train bachurim to actually learn, such as it was in Europe. In this regard they are also much better in Eretz Yisrael.

Of course, we will hear how the break is necessary, etc., etc. But training people from a young age not to waste time while allowing for measured ways and time to release energy would be much healthier. Why does it seem that as they get older, they get to waste more and more time?! That could only be because they are growing into the training of wasting time. (This is also an outgrowth of training to waste time in learning.

We are breeding a generation that does not know the meaning of taking time and life seriously. A generation that looks for the easiest way out of everything. Is it any wonder there are so many young divorces?

  1. Way too many issues in one post.
Secular studies are not the issues here.

  2. Btw, people love whining about so many divorces', but there is no data to back it.

    1. So, a Beis Din in Lakewood doing an average of 2-3 gittin a week (maybe already 3 a week by now) is not enough data to back it up?!
